Anton Gorelkin, First Deputy Chairman of the IT Committee of the State Duma, Chairman of the Board of ROCIT, commented on the statement by the head of the Internet Development Institute (ANO "IRI"), Alexei Goreslavsky, on import substitution of video games, in which many people found a hint of blocking Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation Network, and other foreign platforms.
Even if we assume that IRI will significantly increase funding for the Russian gaming industry (which, in my opinion, is wrong: this should be done by big business), creating high-quality Russian games does not imply banning their foreign counterparts.
The deputy also noted that Steam complies with Russian law and removes prohibited content, and the platform itself already helps promote games created with the support of IRI. Therefore, he believes, there are no grounds for blocking the service.
