Game designer Ron Gilbert and his studio Terrible Toybox are preparing to release their new game Death by Scrolling on consoles — the game will be released on April 16 on PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch. This is a vertical auto-scrolling roguelike in which the player constantly moves upwards, escaping from the Reaper who is hot on their heels.
The player has to take control of one of several characters with unique abilities and try to escape from Purgatory. To do this, you need to collect gold and gems to pay the Ferryman — the price of "passage" is 10 thousand coins. Along the way, you will have to fight enemies, dodge traps, and use power-ups that can be purchased from merchants right during the run.
The project was first released on PC in October 2025 on Steam, but went almost unnoticed. The game collected only 164 reviews, of which 77% were positive. Despite the modest interest of the audience, the developers decided to give the project a second chance with a console release.
