The film "Spider-Man: A New Day" took second place in the list of the most anticipated summer releases of 2026, according to Fandango. The film was second only to "Toy Story 5," but became the most anticipated superhero project, significantly ahead of "Supergirl," which was only in ninth place.
The top ten also included "The Devil Wears Prada 2," Christopher Nolan's "Odyssey," the new "Scary Movie," "Moana," "Minions & Monsters," and "Mortal Kombat 2."
"The Mandalorian & Grogu" was not in the top 10, which is telling. This is the first Star Wars film in seven years, but the level of interest in it among the general public is still lower than expected. The film relies on familiar faces, bringing back Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, and Grogu, who has become one of the symbols of modern pop culture. However, three years have passed since the release of the third season of "The Mandalorian," and the peak of interest in the project was in the second season of 2020.
The rating is based on a survey of more than 6,000 Fandango users in the United States and gives an idea of the current mood of the audience before the busy summer season, but does not guarantee box office success or failure. The balance of power may change closer to the release, especially given the tight schedule and competition for premium screens. For example, Christopher Nolan's "Odyssey" will be released on July 17 and has already taken over some of the IMAX theaters from "Spider-Man," which will be released two weeks later, on July 31.
