Work on the console ports of ETS 2 and ATS is progressing. Developers are paying attention to optimization.
The creators of the long-haul truck driver simulators Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator have released a new diary dedicated to working on console versions.
SCS Software presented gameplay (versions "in development", the footage does not reflect the final quality) and interviews with developers.
The team has "made significant progress." Developers know that optimizing their games mainly depends on the processor. They are bringing the engine into line with modern standards: they are working on its architecture and streamlining the code.
The developers are used to working with PCs and had to adapt, as "consoles with their own requirements" appeared:
The game should not lag, it should load smoothly and respond correctly to gamepad input. The entire complex system should be controlled with just a few buttons. [On consoles] we don't have a keyboard. Although performance is a huge part of the job, a lot of effort is also required to ensure that the game works correctly on consoles at all.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. The exact release date has not yet been announced.
