The film "The Mandalorian & Grogu" will have a runtime of 2 hours and 12 minutes, according to data from the AMC, Cinemark, and Regal cinema chains. This makes it the shortest feature-length project in the Star Wars universe in the last 18 years. Only the animated film "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" from 2008, which lasted 1 hour and 38 minutes, was shorter.

For comparison, "The Force Awakens" ran for 2 hours and 18 minutes, "Rogue One" for 2 hours and 13 minutes, "The Rise of Skywalker" for 2 hours and 21 minutes, and "The Last Jedi" stretched to 2 hours and 32 minutes.

The difference doesn't seem radical, but the trend itself is indicative. It was previously reported that the film's budget was around $166 million, including tax breaks, making it the cheapest project in the franchise under Disney. The studio is acting cautiously, not inflating the scale beyond what is necessary. The film will be the first full-length Star Wars release since 2019, and the future of the franchise in theaters largely depends on its results.

The film takes place after the third season of "The Mandalorian" series. Din Djarin, played again by Pedro Pascal, and Grogu settle on Navarro after the liberation of Mandalore. Soon, the hero begins working for the New Republic and gets caught up in new adventures.

The premiere of "The Mandalorian & Grogu" will take place on May 22, 2026.
