In the face of a challenging situation in the gaming market, especially for indie developers, standing out is becoming increasingly difficult. However, the graveyard management simulator Graveyard Keeper has managed not only to attract the attention of the audience, but also to earn well - largely thanks to a temporary free giveaway.
tinyBuild CEO Alex Nichiporchik said on social media that the game is currently in the top 39 most popular projects on Steam and is gathering more than 40,000 concurrent players. This surge in interest has also directly impacted the future of the franchise: the sequel Graveyard Keeper 2 has already been wishlisted around 450,000 times.
At the same time, the free giveaway turned out to be beneficial not only in terms of popularity. According to Nichiporchik, sales of add-ons to the original game brought in almost $250,000 on Steam alone. And this is without taking into account income from consoles.
