Warner Bros. has revealed the key cast of "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum," which will be a prequel to "The Fellowship of the Ring" and focus on the search for Gollum. The main role of Aragorn will be played by Jamie Dornan ("50 Shades of Grey"), replacing Viggo Mortensen, who is not participating in the project due to age.
Several actors from the original trilogy will return to their roles. Ian McKellen will reappear as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo, and Andy Serkis will once again play Gollum and simultaneously serve as the project's director. Lee Pace's return as Thranduil has also been confirmed.
Among the new faces are Leo Woodall, who landed the role of a Dúnedain named Halvard, and Kate Winslet, playing the character Marigold, presumably associated with Smeagol.
Rumor has it that Anya Taylor-Joy and Evangeline Lilly may also appear in the project, but there is no official confirmation of this information yet.
Filming will begin in July 2026 in New Zealand. The premiere is scheduled for December 17, 2027.
