Square Enix announced that it has taken legal action in response to cases of online harassment targeting its employees and management. A statement dated April 20 says the reason was videos posted on one of the video-hosting platforms that damaged the reputation of the company and the team working on Final Fantasy XIV.

According to the company, the content creator was identified, after which the videos and the account were removed. The parties reached an amicable settlement: the user apologized, paid compensation (the amount was not disclosed), and undertook not to repeat such actions in the future.

This is not the first such case recently. Earlier, on March 2, Square Enix reported the harassment of employees by the administrator of the Japanese news aggregator Netoge Sokuho (previously known as FF14 Sokuho). Since the owner of the site concealed their identity, the company had to obtain a court order compelling the provider to disclose the data. As a result, the parties also settled the conflict: the owner of the resource publicly apologized, shut down the site, and paid compensation.
