Despite a successful launch and multimillion sales, Crimson Desert has faced criticism for its story component — many players and reviewers note weak story development, problems with the pacing of the narrative, and insufficient depth in the campaign.

Against the backdrop of these discussions, the situation was commented on by motion capture actor Trevor McEwan, who worked on the portrayal of the main hero, Kliff (voiced by Alec Newman). He acknowledged that the game does indeed have shortcomings in its narrative, but emphasized that the project compensates for this with other aspects.

According to McEwan, the game world contains quite a bit of lore that is revealed through additional materials and the environment, although players will have to spend time reading and exploring for this. He also said that he participated in the creation of cutscenes and cinematic episodes, while more complex and dangerous stunts were performed by a Korean team of specialists.
