Sony Interactive Entertainment is preparing changes to its security system: as early as this year, PlayStation users will have to verify their age in order to continue using communication features.

According to information from the company newsletter, the new measure is aimed at creating a "safe and age-appropriate environment" for players and their families, as well as providing greater control over the gaming experience while preserving user privacy. The initiative follows a broader industry trend — platforms such as Discord and Roblox have previously begun introducing similar mechanisms.

Age verification will be rolled out worldwide and will affect communication features exclusively. Users who do not complete verification will still be able to play, earn trophies, and use the store, but will lose access to messages and voice chat.

The exact launch date of the system has not yet been disclosed, but the company emphasizes that compliance with the new requirements will become a mandatory condition for retaining full communication functionality on the platform.
