Chris Avellone doubts that Bethesda is capable of creating a Fallout: New Vegas remaster

Some fans have been waiting for years for the announcement of an FNV remaster.

Fans have long been urging Obsidian and Bethesda to make a remaster of Fallout: New Vegas. It is possible that creating an updated version of this game is a much more difficult task than is commonly believed.

Writer Chris Avellone shared his opinion in a conversation with TKs-Mantis:

I look at it very simply: I think Bethesda does not have the necessary engineering expertise to make a New Vegas remaster.

According to him, at the final stage of development of Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian was approached with a proposal: "please hand over all the source code and the ability to build a build," and in return they were promised 10 thousand dollars. According to Avellone, management never agreed to the deal.

If Bethesda really does not have the source code for Fallout: New Vegas, that greatly complicates the development of a remaster.

As one of the potential solutions to this problem, Avellone sees using an approach similar to the one applied in the creation of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered — the game logic runs on the old engine, while the visual part is moved to a modern one, for example Unreal Engine.

In the writer's opinion, Bethesda could first apply this method to create a remaster of Fallout 3, which has long been the subject of rumors.
