Western audiences did not even catch one of the funniest globe references in Pragmata

In the sci-fi action game Pragmata, players discovered a cultural reference that may go unnoticed outside Japan.

As they progress, users find special collectible items — REM (Read Earth Memories) holograms that make it possible to recreate objects from Earth. One of the first such items is a globe: after repairing it, the android Diana starts spinning it and pointing at different spots. At first glance, the scene looks like a simply cute animation, but attentive Japanese players noticed that it is likely a reference to the popular comedian Gorgeous (Gorgeous).

This performer is known for his eccentric space pirate persona and a skit in which, after ending up in a snowy wilderness, he encourages his companion with the phrase "we will still be saved," then suddenly pulls out a globe, shouts "Madagascar," and points at it with his finger. The joke is built on surprise and wordplay.

In Pragmata, Diana does not say "Madagascar" — instead, she names other countries such as Venezuela, Malaysia, and Denmark. Nevertheless, her behavior — rapidly spinning the globe and pointing to roughly the same area — almost exactly repeats the comedian's performance. An additional hint is provided by her deliberately serious facial expression at that moment.

Players note that the scene looks "too Gorgeous-like" to be accidental, and it is especially amusing that the reference is aimed primarily at a Japanese audience — overseas users may simply not get it.
