Xbox head Asha Sharma commented on the situation surrounding Xbox Mobile Store, whose page recently stopped working and began returning an error. Despite this, according to the executive, the project has not been shut down and is still being considered a promising direction for development.
The issue with Xbox Mobile Store drew users' attention after the service page became unavailable. According to Sharma, a legal filing was submitted three weeks ago emphasizing the importance of competition in the mobile market. She said the company is striving for a more open future for the gaming industry.
Sharma acknowledged that the team is still in the process of exploring possibilities, but emphasized that the idea of the Xbox mobile store is "not dead".
It is worth recalling that back in 2024, former Xbox president Sarah Bond spoke about plans to launch the company's own mobile store. It was expected to feature both games from internal studios and popular titles such as Candy Crush and Minecraft. At launch, the service was planned to be implemented as a web platform to ensure availability on any devices and in different countries, regardless of the restrictions of closed ecosystems.
