Mario creator surprised by reviews of "Super Mario: Galactic Movie": "I thought everything would be different."

Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Super Mario, said that the reviews of the film "Super Mario: Galactic Movie" turned out to be harsher than he expected. He said this at the film's premiere in Japan.

He noted that he understood some of the criticism of the first film, but expected a warmer reception for the sequel. Miyamoto said:

I thought that this time everything would be different, but it turned out that the criticism was even harsher than before.

He also added that the situation is "rather unclear" to him.

As with the first part, the scores from critics and viewers differ greatly: about 43% positive reviews from critics versus 89% from viewers. This indicates that fans liked the film more.

Despite the cold reception from the press, the box office remains strong - more than $750 million worldwide, and the project is heading toward one billion. The film was created with the participation of Nintendo and Illumination.

Miyamoto also noted that the Japanese version of the film differs from the international one: it is not simply localized, but written as a separate screenplay.
