Sega to Relaunch Classics: Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, and Golden Axe to Be Developed
Several years ago, Sega announced the revival of old franchises. The result has already been the release of Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, which became one of the notable gaming surprises of 2025.
New installments of Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, and Golden Axe are also in development. The latter franchise will also receive an animated series, and, according to the company, this is not an isolated experiment with other media.
Sega has launched the Sega Universe initiative. The project includes not only new games scheduled for release in the coming years but also the expansion of brands into other formats. The official announcement emphasizes that this is not about simple re-releases.
The company also states its desire to bring back the spirit of old projects without reducing it to nostalgia. As part of the initiative, plans include working with films, animated series, and fashion products.
Currently, the program includes series celebrating anniversaries:
- Fantasy Zone — 40 years (March 1986, arcades)
- OutRun — 40 years (September 1986, arcades)
- Streets of Rage — 35 years (August 1991, Sega Genesis)
- Rent a Hero — 35 years (September 1991, Sega Genesis)
- Guardian Heroes — 30 years (January 1996, Sega Saturn)
- Nights — 30 years (July 1996, Sega Saturn)
- Dynamite Deka — 30 years (July 1996, arcades)
- Sakura Wars — 30 years (September 1996, Sega Saturn)
- SGGG — 25 years (March 2001, Sega Dreamcast)
