The People Are Not the Same: Mass Effect Andromeda Voice Actor Blames EA and Players for Game's Failure
People too often posted offensive jokes and memes.
In an interview with We Are Mass Effect, actor Tom Taylorson, who voiced the male version of Ryder in Mass Effect Andromeda, stated that working on the game was one of the best experiences in his career. According to him, participating in the development brought him not only pleasure but also valuable experience, new acquaintances, and further career opportunities. The actor emphasized that he still considers Andromeda one of his favorite projects.
At the same time, he admitted that the game itself found itself in extremely unfavorable conditions. Taylorson believes that the project suffered due to inflated expectations from publisher Electronic Arts, rushed development, and technical difficulties. In particular, the team was forced to work with a new engine, which, according to him, was poorly suited for the narrative part and was not sufficiently mastered by the developers.
An additional factor was the toxic environment surrounding the release: the game quickly became the subject of widespread criticism and ridicule on the internet. According to the actor, the negative wave only amplified the perception failure of the project and cemented its status as a “disappointment.”
Despite this, BioWare and the entire team, according to Taylorson, put a lot of effort into the game, and he calls the experience of working on Andromeda “a special and important stage of life.”
