According to Insider Gaming, Valve "is approaching a final announcement" for Steam Machine, during which the company will reveal the start date for device sales. However, the main stumbling block remains the price. Currently, the company is actively discussing the option of selling Steam Machine at a loss – with the expectation of compensating for losses through game sales within the Steam ecosystem.
Although the specific cost of Steam Machine has not yet been disclosed, indirect benchmarks have already appeared. The Steam controller itself could be $100, which hints at a significantly higher price for the console itself – even if Valve decides to sell it at cost or below.
From a technical standpoint, Steam Machine looks serious: the device is equipped with an AMD Zen 4 processor and RDNA 3 graphics with 8 GB of video memory. According to the stated characteristics, it is approximately six times more powerful than Steam Deck and comparable to mainstream or entry-level gaming PCs.
