Two Giants Vie for Metroid Prime Film Adaptation Rights - Insider
The buzz from the success of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" and the announcement of "The Legend of Zelda" has barely died down, and new reports have emerged: Nintendo is looking for a studio to adapt Metroid Prime into a film.
According to insider V Scooper, two major players are vying for the rights – Sony Pictures and Universal Pictures.
Metroid remains a subject of negotiations between the studios. Both are leaning towards a live-action version, but this could still change. Rumors of Universal's involvement have been circulating since late 2025, when the studio allegedly wanted to include Samus Aran's story in its "Mario cinematic universe."
The interest is amplified by the fact that both companies have already worked with Nintendo. Universal was behind the animated Mario hit, and Sony has completed filming "The Legend of Zelda," scheduled for release in May 2027.
The cast is also being discussed. Brie Larson, who voiced Rosalina in "Super Mario: Galactic Cinema," has repeatedly expressed her desire to play Samus Aran, and her candidacy is actively being discussed.
