Insider Brad Lynch reported that due to a sharp increase in RAM prices, the cost of Steam Machine and Steam Frame has significantly increased. According to him, the Steam Machine saw the biggest price hike, while the VR headset was less affected.
While Valve attributed the price increase for the controller to rising logistics costs, for other devices, component shortages are also a factor. The final cost of the upcoming new products has not yet been disclosed, but judging by current trends, it could be significantly higher than expected.
It was previously announced that the Steam controller will go on sale on May 4 for $99 / €99 / £85, making it relatively affordable among premium gamepads, although the company itself admitted that it initially planned a lower price.
