Many players jokingly call NTE an anime version of Grand Theft Auto. It's hard to disagree with them, given the project's visual aesthetics and palpable degree of madness.

Players are cast as the first unlicensed anomaly hunter with powerful abilities. According to the plot, the hero has to investigate mysterious supernatural phenomena, working for the Anomaly Control Bureau, interacting with vivid partners, and gradually uncovering a deep, sometimes dark mystery behind these anomalies.
