Thanks to the Musk v. Altman case, letters have been made public in which Gabe Newell asked Elon Musk to arrange a tour for Hideo Kojima at SpaceX and OpenAI.

In 2018, Hideo Kojima visited Valve's office to discuss Death Stranding. Court documents show that after the meeting, Gabe Newell offered to introduce him to the OpenAI teams and Elon Musk.

Newell wrote to Musk in October 2018:

Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear series, a true visionary in our field) was at Valve talking about his new game and the importance of future work in AI.

He added that he was ready to introduce Kojima to people from OpenAI and emphasized their work with Valve.

Later, Newell separately noted Kojima's interest in space and offered to arrange a tour for him at SpaceX.

Musk responded positively:

Of course, it would be great to meet Hideo Kojima, he can visit the rocket factory. No problem, I'll send him my email.

By 2020, the visit had not yet taken place. In an interview with Geoff Keighley, Kojima again expressed his desire to visit SpaceX with Newell. Musk replied on X:

Welcome anytime.

Kojima himself previously described his interest in space very emotionally – he said he was ready to give up his career and even personal life for a short flight beyond the atmosphere.

The correspondence also discussed OpenAI and Neuralink. Newell showed interest in neuromodulation, and Musk talked about Neuralink's progress, including the development of implants with thousands of electrodes.

The full correspondence was published by OpenAI's defense team as part of the case.
