Square Enix Compromises. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Demo for Switch 2 Shows Noticeable Simplifications
After the warm reception of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Switch 2, expectations for Square Enix's next port have grown, with Rebirth's release on the platform scheduled for June 3, 2026.
After the demo's release, players began to notice differences from other versions. Most frequently discussed are the interiors of houses in Nibelheim, where comparative videos show the disappearance of individual environmental elements – flower vases, framed photographs, pots, and pans. Changes are noticeable not only in gameplay but also in cutscenes. This quickly sparked online discussions and version comparisons, as some players saw it as a simplification of the visual aspect.
On the other hand, this seems like a conscious compromise for performance. According to comparisons by Nintendo Everything, the PS5 version runs at 60 FPS, while the Switch 2 version targets 30 FPS. However, stable performance is reported, especially indoors, with minor drops in open locations. Simply put, some details were removed to make the game run more stably on weaker hardware.
