Sony Even Raised Prices on Refurbished PS5 Slim Consoles
Some players are unhappy with another round of price increases for modern consoles.
In early May, user FernandoRocker and other members of the PlayStation community noticed that Sony had updated console prices in its official store.
This round of price increases also affected “refurbished” (used) models.
- A refurbished PlayStation 5 Slim with a disc drive now costs $549 (previously available for $449).
- A refurbished PlayStation 5 Slim without a disc drive costs $499 (previously $399).
- A refurbished original “fat” PS5 with a disc drive is still available for $399.
One of the discussion participants, ButterscotchAward, said that a few days ago, his friend was able to buy a console bundled with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 for only $449.99.
dangeruser expressed the opinion:
It feels like if you still don't have a PS5, you're already a little late, and it's probably better to just save up for the next-gen console. Unless you just have a lot of extra money that you can easily spend now.
User JayKay8787 reminded that there is currently a shortage of RAM, which affects the cost of equipment:
I honestly don't understand all the hate towards Sony for raising prices. Do people just close their eyes and ears and ignore what's happening in the world? There's a serious RAM shortage right now, which affects manufacturing and supply. They can't control the prices at which suppliers sell them components. Be angry at greedy billionaires and AI companies that are ruining everything, not at Sony for a small price increase due to factors beyond its control.
