In the new "Lord of the Rings" film, Aragorn will be played by a different actor, but the original performer of the role is not against the replacement.

Andy Serkis, on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, shared Viggo Mortensen's reaction to the replacement of Aragorn in the film "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum". According to the director, Mortensen is "thrilled" with the choice of Jamie Dornan for the role.

"We are thrilled that Jamie is doing it. I mean, we are just absolutely thrilled. And, by the way, so is Viggo."

When Serkis was asked why Mortensen would not return to the role, he declined to discuss the casting and told the host that he wanted to save the details for a "later stage."

Previously, it was discussed online that the character's age might have prevented Mortensen's return. The events of "The Hunt for Gollum" take place between "The Hobbit" and "The Fellowship of the Ring" and tell the story of young Aragorn's search for Gollum. For this, the studio would have had to use digital de-aging. According to unofficial data, the actor opposed this approach and refused to return to the role.

The premiere of "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" is scheduled for December 17, 2027.
