Screenings of "Mortal Kombat 2" in Russian cinemas are under threat. According to the industry publication CINEMAPLEX, market participants have started receiving "official warnings" about the infringement of copyright and related rights during public screenings of the film. The notifications are being sent by the law firm "Samoilov", which acts under a power of attorney from Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.
For Russian cinemas, this creates risks when holding unofficial screenings. "Mortal Kombat 2" is not officially released in the country, and screenings were planned as pre-session service starting May 14, a week after the world premiere. Now, venues that still decide to show the film may face claims from the copyright holder and lawsuits.
