The Amazon series "Blade Runner 2099" will not be released in 2026, as previously expected. The information appeared in a Deadline report on the activities of Alcon Media Group, which is behind Denis Villeneuve's "Blade Runner 2049" and the upcoming series. Its events, as the title suggests, will unfold 50 years after the film.
This is the second postponement of the project since its announcement in 2021. The first was due to Hollywood strikes. Now the delay is explained by difficulties in the post-production stage, which began in August 2025 after filming was completed.
It is known that "Blade Runner 2099" will be a one-season mini-series. Silka Luisa, who previously worked on "Halo," serves as the showrunner. Executive producers include Ridley Scott, Michael Green, and others. The first two episodes were directed by Jonathan van Tulleken, known for "Shōgun," and the writing team is led by Tom Spezialy, who worked on "Watchmen."
The main role will be played by Michelle Yeoh, an Oscar winner for the film "Everything Everywhere All at Once." The cast also includes Hunter Schafer, Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Kaitlin Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, and others.
