Sony held several test screenings for "Spider-Man: New Day," the fourth solo Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland. Director Destin Daniel Cretton was pleased with the outcome, and according to film critic John Campea, the audience reaction surpassed the expectations of Sony and Marvel. Campea described it as "outstanding." Insider MyTimeToShineHello gave a similar assessment, reporting a "very positive" audience response.
While a failure at test screenings for the new "Spider-Man" was unlikely, such a unanimous reaction is still noteworthy. Typically, these screenings yield more mixed reviews; studios use them to understand what else can be improved and await specific feedback from the test audience.
Tom Holland previously mentioned that the film was sent for reshoots to add more humor and better develop one of the villains. It is currently unclear whether these changes are related to the test screenings or when these screenings took place: information about the reshoots first emerged just over three weeks ago.
The premiere of "Spider-Man: New Day" is scheduled for July 31, 2026.
