The first reactions to "Mortal Kombat 2" have appeared online ahead of full reviews, and the initial impressions seem more positive than those for the 2021 reboot.

The main change cited is a more explicit emphasis on the source material. Viewers claim that the film handles the game's legacy with more confidence, embraces its "gameplay" nature more readily, and call it "the film we should have gotten right away," referring to the controversial first installment from 2021.

Among the positives, they note the high-quality fight choreography, fast pace, abundance of action, and uncompromising brutality characteristic of the series. Special praise was given to the comedic chemistry between Karl Urban as Johnny Cage and Josh Lawson as Kano, as well as Kitana, who is called the heart of the film.

Viewers also noted the abandonment of Arcanas, a controversial concept from the first film that fans often criticized for being alien to the Mortal Kombat universe.

The worldwide premiere of "Mortal Kombat 2" is scheduled for May 8, 2026. In Russia, the film will apparently not be released even unofficially: representatives of Warner Bros. are sending warnings about copyright infringement in case of public screenings.
