The two final episodes of the animated series "Star Wars. Darth Maul: Shadow Lord" have been released on Disney+. The season finale was timed to May 4th, the unofficial Star Wars Day.
"Shadow Lord" premiered on April 6th and quickly became one of the platform's most successful releases recently. The series held the top spot in the charts for several weeks, only yielding to another major project, and will likely contend for first place again following the finale's release. Critics and viewers have warmly received the show: its rating on Rotten Tomatoes settled at 98% from critics and 90% from the audience.
The series takes place after the events of "The Clone Wars" and Order 66. Maul attempts to regain influence, rebuild his criminal empire, and encounters a disillusioned padawan whom he intends to use for his own purposes.
The story doesn't end there. A second season is already in development. According to Sam Witwer, who voices Darth Maul, work on the continuation has been ongoing "for some time." This means the studio launched production even before the first season's premiere, which indirectly speaks to Disney's initial confidence in the project. The actor noted that he knows the approximate release dates but cannot disclose details yet.
