Why Players Are Massively Returning to Fallout 76 - Bethesda's Answer
Despite a disastrous and controversial launch in 2018, Fallout 76 is now experiencing a second youth.
Bethesda representatives explained why the game managed to stay on the market and continues to attract new players.
Project creative director Jon Rush at the BAFTA Games Awards named the main reason for its success not the mechanics, but “a fantastic and surprisingly friendly community of players.”
New users expect aggressive behavior typical of survival games, but instead encounter cooperation and mutual assistance. According to Rush, this is a strong contrast to the brutal post-apocalyptic world.
Examples of community activity include the Fallout for Hope charity initiatives and theatrical performances by the Wasteland Theatre Company directly within the game world.
The publisher's decisions also contributed to its growing popularity: the release of the TV series based on the universe and the Burning Springs update. Additional player influx was provided by the Xbox Game Pass subscription, regular discounts, and the release of the second season of the Fallout series.
