Recently, Arc Raiders fans have been actively complaining about cheaters. Against this backdrop, Embark Studios released a blog post discussing their fight against third-party software and more.

The developers stated that their system combines kernel-level protection from Easy Anti-Cheat with detection capabilities based on machine learning (ML) models trained on a constant stream of player telemetry (data). They also use “additional layers of protection,” but the creators of Arc Raiders do not want to disclose them for “operational security reasons.”

According to Embark, kernel-level detection is a necessity because most commercial cheats operate at that level. The studio is currently testing a new kernel-level solution, which developers expect will improve the accuracy and effectiveness of cheat detection.

Some cheaters use third-party controllers to play Arc Raiders. The developers understand that people with disabilities also play the game and use special devices. The anti-cheat system is already capable of recognizing many official devices that enhance game accessibility:

Our systems analyze telemetry and interaction patterns to distinguish legitimate use of accessibility devices from abuse, allowing those who truly need them to continue playing. This process is still being refined, but we continue to work and are pleased with the results we have already achieved.

Bans in Arc Raiders can be appealed – each application is reviewed by people; the process is not automated:

While waiting for a response and receiving templated messages that our staff use to maintain consistency can be frustrating, we review each case to ensure fair play while simultaneously testing and improving the systems and models responsible for game balance and enjoyment.
