Mixtape received high praise from media, but criticized for short duration and weak interactivity

Journalists highly praised Mixtape, but some criticism focused on its duration, linearity, and technical state.

Mixtape caused a stir among players and the press. IGN, DualShockers, Stevivor, and other publications gave the project 10/10 and call it one of the most notable releases of 2026.

It wasn't without problems. The main complaint is its short duration and almost complete lack of interactivity. Many segments play out almost by themselves.

Mixtape is called an interactive movie and a project that "plays itself." A full playthrough takes about 2.5–3 hours, and there's no desire to return after the ending due to its linearity and lack of alternative paths.

Some reviewers also criticize the plot for lacking a cohesive intrigue in favor of a series of musical scenes with "questionable dialogues."

The game's technical state on Unreal Engine 5 also received criticism. On a PC with an RTX 5080, performance in native 4K drops to 30–40 FPS during walks in the forest.

KaranBenchmarks states:

The game runs on Unreal Engine 5, but it lacks scaling and frame generation features. The only option is TSR with a rendering slider, which I do not recommend due to terrible image quality. Despite the anime art style, performance is catastrophic, and the FPS difference between Ultra and Low is minimal. For such a game, UE4 would have been a much better choice.
