Eric Kripke commented on the cancellation of the series "Gen V" and made it clear that the decision was not his. "The Boys" showrunner stated that he himself tried to save the spin-off and is no less upset by its cancellation than the fans.
"I didn't cancel the show. First, I don't have that power. Second, I fought to save it probably harder than anyone on Earth. So I'm as upset as anyone else."
Kripke explained that Amazon's decision is related to the industry's usual formula: viewership versus production cost. If a project turns out to be too expensive relative to its audience, the streaming service begins to doubt its profitability. According to the showrunner, this is what happened with "Gen V".
Nevertheless, Kripke made it clear during the cancellation announcement that some "Gen V" characters will appear in other spin-offs that are already in development.
