Lao Zhang, a Chinese portable console designer best known for his work with GKD on the Pixel series and the LG Wing, appears to be preparing a new product for gamers. During a live stream on the Baidu platform, Zhang showcased a portable device, now called the Yoo Y1 — a horizontal Android console.
Based on images that have appeared online and a video available on the Retro Dodo portal, the Yoo Y1 features a minimalist glass front panel, two analog sticks positioned one above the other, shoulder buttons, and a metal mid-frame.
Currently, the known specifications include: a 4.5-inch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and 1620 × 1080 resolution, Hall effect triggers, TMR joysticks, and a 6000 mAh battery. Information regarding the processor and RAM is yet to be confirmed.
Zhang's previous work on the Pixel series in partnership with GKD resulted in a line of compact devices with metal casings that gained a loyal following despite their shortcomings. The LG Wing console, where the internals and screen of the LG Wing smartphone were transferred into a vertical form factor, was released in limited batches and solidified the designer's reputation for creating unique devices.
The Yoo Y1 looks more traditional, but the choice of components suggests that Zhang is targeting a higher segment than before. With a suitable chipset and good network capabilities, such a device could become a worthy successor to consoles like the Odin 2 Mini. The Yoo Y1 might be available for purchase as early as June 2026.
