
Commodore 64 and Spectrum Computers Turned into Portable Clamshells - Back to the 80s
Gamers nostalgic for 80s computers can now pre-order TheC64 Handheld and The Spectrum Handheld portable devices. Each clamshell has 25 games built-in.
Blaze Entertainment and Retro Games have decided to cheer up retro gamers. They announced TheC64 Handheld and The Spectrum Handheld — portable versions of the Commodore 64 and Spectrum computers from the distant 80s. Each device can now be pre-ordered for $129.99 (9746 rubles).
TheC64 Handheld has the following games built-in: A Pig Quest, Sam’s Journey, Nebulus, Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe, Super Boulder Dash, Paradroid, Hunters Moon Remastered, Knight ’n’ Grail, Aztec Challenge, Krakout, Lee, Druid, Encounter!, Galencia, Ice Guys, Metal Warrior Ultra, Millie & Molly, Planet Golf, Shadow Switcher, Spherical, Squish ‘Em, Steel Ranger, X-Out, Yeti Mountain & It’s Magic 2.
The Spectrum Handheld's game list is as follows: Head Over Heels, Manic Miner, Skool Daze, Tiny Dungeons, Archon: The Light and the Dark, The Great Escape, Bounder, Switchblade, Nightmare Rally, M.O.V.I.E., Avenger: The Way of the Tiger II, Bugaboo the Flea, Devwill Too ZX, Hammerfist, Hammer Knight, Penguin Attack, S1NCLA1R C1TY, Shovel Adventure, Snake Escape, Sorcerer Kid Adventure, Splat, Tourmaline, Where Time Stood Still, Zynaps, Starquake.
Also, thanks to the microSD card slot, other games can be added. The dimensions of these clamshells are: width — 136 mm, height — 26 mm, depth — 86 mm (weight — 235 grams). Colors: retro-beige (TheC64 Handheld), classic black (The Spectrum Handheld).
The portables received a 4.3-inch IPS screen with 840×480 resolution, a quad-core processor (1.2 GHz), 256 MB of RAM, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a 2000 mAh battery (more than 3 hours of operation), USB-C with a cable included, a USB-A port (input/output) for an external keyboard or joystick.
TheC64 Handheld supports the following formats: C64 PAL/NTSC, C64C PAL/NTSC, C64SX PAL/NTSC, PET64 PAL/NTSC, C64 GS. The Spectrum Handheld offers a choice between Spectrum 48K, Spectrum 48K (NTSC), Spectrum 128K, Spectrum +2, Spectrum +2A, Spectrum +3, Spectrum +3e, Spectrum 16K. In addition, there is an option to underclock or overclock the processor.
The devices will be released in October 2026. Users who value comfort can also pre-order the collector's edition of TheC64 Handheld or The Spectrum Handheld for $149.99 (11,246 rubles). It includes an exclusive hard carrying case, styled after the corresponding console, an exclusive issue of "Zzap!" magazine, and an exclusive "Crash!" magazine.
