11 May 07:42

Gambonanza unexpectedly became another Steam hit. The unusual roguelike game with chess elements sold over 100 thousand copies in just eight days.

This is a variation of chess that can be as addictive as the card blockbuster Balatro, which proved that simple mechanics can be engaging and attract masses of players.

Gambonanza was created by a solo developer. Currently, the project holds 77% positive reviews based on almost 800 ratings, and the peak online reached approximately 2150 people.

Additionally, the low price helped the game — until May 15, the game is sold at a 35% discount for 298 rubles.

The developer commented on the project's success:

100,000 copies sold on Steam in 8 days. This is absolutely unreal for me! Thank you all for the love, chaos, streams, and support. It means a lot to me to see how many people enjoy this strange little chess roguelike.
