Details of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic's Duration Revealed

New details about Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic have emerged online. Casey Hudson shared information about the project's scale and duration.

The director of the spiritual successor to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and creator of the Mass Effect series stated that the game will not stretch for hundreds of hours. Instead, the developers are creating a more focused RPG adventure with clear story arcs.

According to Hudson, the campaign will be “dense” and designed for comfortable completion. However, due to the branching storyline, players will have to return to the game to see different consequences of their choices. The total content volume is estimated at approximately 50–70 hours.

This is more than the original Knights of the Old Republic. According to HowLongToBeat, the main story of the first part took about 30 hours, and a full playthrough up to 45 hours.

The new game is being developed at Arcanaut Studios, founded by BioWare veterans. The team includes developers involved in Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and KOTOR. The project is being created on Unreal Engine 5.

The action will unfold in the era of the Old Republic, long before the events of the Skywalker films. Hudson emphasized that this period offers more creative freedom. He also stated that generative AI is not being used in development, calling it “creatively soulless.”

The game's release is not expected before 2030.
