Ubisoft buried real treasures worth $500,000 as part of the Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced promotional campaign
The treasure hunt could take 2 to 5 years.
Ubisoft announced the launch of an unusual promotional campaign for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. In collaboration with the French startup Unsolved Hunts, the company is organizing a global Gold & Crystal treasure hunt, the winner of which will receive a treasure worth $500,000.
The main prize will be a chest with gold coins and a crystal skull — a replica of the artifact from the game, created by French master engraver Hervé Obligi. The gold coins with the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced logo were made by AuCOFFRE, a company specializing in precious metals. The coins are valued at $350,000, and the skull with opal at an additional $150,000.
The organizers note that all 15 puzzles can be solved from anywhere in the world and without knowledge of the Assassin’s Creed series, so participation is open even to those who have never played Ubisoft projects. However, the final stage will require a trip to the Caribbean region — that's where the treasure chest will be buried.
At the same time, the treasure hunt is designed for a long period: according to the organizers, the search could take from two to five years. Participation will also require purchasing one of the special kits, with prices starting from €34.99.
A total of seven kits will be available:
- Deckhand — €34.99: digital access to the hunt interface
- Sailor — €49.99: physical kit with maps, bottle, letters, and investigation materials
- Gunner — €59.99: additionally includes a 120-page traveler's journal
- Quartermaster — €84.99: pirate board strategy game for 2–4 players
- First Mate — €124.99: detective adventure Amelia Davies and the Treasure of Blackbeard lasting 6–8 hours
- Captain — €159.99: Captain Kenway's flag and a collectible coin
- Pirate Lord — €199.99: calligraphy set with quill, sealing wax, and stamp
The official launch of Gold & Crystal will take place on November 9 — four months after the release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, which is scheduled for July 9.
