BioWare veteran James Ohlen revealed the real reason for his unexpected departure from Archetype Entertainment, the studio developing the sci-fi RPG EXODUS. According to the developer, the cause was severe emotional burnout after six years of working on the project.

In early January, Ohlen's departure caused concern among fans, especially given that EXODUS is scheduled for release in early 2027. Many feared that the project had serious problems. However, in a fresh interview, the game designer made it clear that the decision was solely related to his health.

Ohlen admitted that combining the roles of studio head and creative director proved destructive for him.

I always said I shouldn't run a studio — it would kill me. And it almost did. For six years, I worked at my limit, and it destroyed my health, my personal life, and everything else around me.

According to him, it is difficult for a creative person to simultaneously manage a large team and constantly make compromises. Constant pressure, working with a large budget, and the need to balance the interests of different parties ultimately led to complete exhaustion.
