Sony Begins Testing SteamDB-Style Functionality on PS5

Sony is testing a new feature on PS5 that will allow users to see the most popular games on the platform — much like SteamDB for Steam.

This refers to a special widget for the welcome center that displays weekly game popularity statistics. The feature does not show the number of players in real-time, but it does provide an idea of which projects are currently attracting the most attention from the PlayStation audience.

The widget will operate in two modes: "Top 10" and "Trending." The first displays the ten most popular games with weekly player activity metrics, while the second shows projects that are rapidly gaining popularity at a specific moment in time.

The "Trending" section may turn out to be more diverse — it will include fresh releases and older games that have received major updates. This will allow users to more quickly notice new trends among PlayStation users.

One of the system's features will be the regional binding of statistics. Users will only see data for their own country, not global figures for the entire platform. On the one hand, this limits the overview, but on the other hand, it helps to find games that are popular specifically within the local community.
