Bandai Namco has revealed its first plans for the 50th anniversary of the "Mobile Suit Gundam" franchise, to be celebrated in 2029.

At the GUNDAM CONFERENCE SPRING 2026 presentation, Bandai Namco launched the Mobile Suit Gundam 50th Anniversary — Road to 50 program and showcased the first projects dedicated to the franchise's anniversary in 2029.

The anniversary program kicked off with the short film "a boy with GUNDAM," directed by Tsukuru Hayakawa in collaboration with creators who worked on the franchise over the years. The video is accompanied by the song Kinjito by the band PEOPLE 1 and introduces viewers to different generations of heroes and Gundams.

In addition, the development of a remaster of the original 1979 anime "Mobile Suit Gundam," which started the franchise, has been confirmed. The project will be released in 2029, but details about it are not yet available.

A separate announcement concerns the anime "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing," which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2025. It will also receive some kind of "video project," but the format has not yet been specified.

Furthermore, starting in 2027, Bandai Namco plans events for fans in various countries, the release of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO in Japanese cinemas, and other projects. For example, a live-action film starring Sydney Sweeney, Noah Centineo, and Jason Clarke has been in development for some time. Production is handled by Legendary in partnership with Bandai Namco Filmworks — the release date is not yet known.
