Hobby World publishing house announced that pre-orders for a new book for the "Call of Cthulhu" tabletop role-playing game — "Pulp Cthulhu" — have opened on the CrowdRepublic crowdfunding platform.

It can now be purchased for 3590 rubles. This is an additional rulebook that can turn players' investigations into dangerous but action-packed adventures in the spirit of "Indiana Jones."

A character is created according to the rules in Chapter 2, "Creating Pulp Heroes," but their pulp talents and Luck points are limited or entirely absent. Health points may also be reduced.

Players will be able to choose archetypes, talents, and occupations for their adventurers, join various organizations that provide access to additional funds, knowledge, and quests. They will also be able to evaluate the new Luck rules.

Luck will be needed to change the result of a skill or characteristic check, cancel a weapon malfunction or misfire, halve Sanity loss, avoid unconsciousness, reduce the severity of an injury, and escape death.

Combat has also undergone changes. Now a character can flee from combat, stun an enemy, knock them down, or shoot through partial cover to hit an opponent. Magic in "Pulp Cthulhu" remains as rare and mysterious, but a number of changes occur: studying books and spells is faster than in regular "Call of Cthulhu."

In "Pulp Cthulhu," everything reaches epic proportions. Heroes are legendary — rare individuals with unique experience, knowledge, and talents. Villains, of course, can sometimes devise modest plans, but more often their insidious schemes are ambitious and have far-reaching consequences.

The setting of "Pulp Cthulhu" is the 1930s, the time of the Great Depression. The book offers an entire chapter dedicated to this difficult period in US history. In it, players will find a detailed history and chronology of the Great Depression, as well as the distinctive features of the era: organizations active at the time, slang expressions characteristic of the period, a description of rampant crime, as well as features of music, literature, cinema and other entertainment, architecture, technology, travel, and even airships.

Book delivery is expected to begin in September 2026. Its review can be watched on Chaosium's YouTube channel.
