Microsoft's gaming division has strengthened.

Xbox is strengthening its console leadership by appointing two key specialists who are expected to help define the brand's future. As reported by The Game Business, Matthew Ball and Scott Van Vliet have joined the team.

Matthew Ball has taken on the role of Chief Strategy Officer for Xbox. He is known as the author of the bestseller "The Metaverse" and previously worked at Amazon Studios. Ball also currently heads Epyllion, a company focused on investment and strategic consulting in film, television, and video games. His arrival may indicate Xbox's desire to more actively develop its ecosystem beyond traditional consoles.

Scott Van Vliet has become the new Chief Technology Officer for Xbox. Previously, he led the engineering efforts for Microsoft Teams during the COVID-19 pandemic and also worked on Azure OpenAI. Additionally, his resume includes projects at Amazon and a position as Vice President of Digital Services at Mattel.

Chris Schnakenberg, who moved to Xbox from Activision Blizzard, also received a promotion. He now holds the position of Corporate Vice President of Partnerships and Business Development, focusing on interactions with external publishers and third-party studios.

Xbox head Asha Sharma noted in a letter to employees that the changes are aimed at strengthening the business foundation and improving the company's efficiency in anticipation of future announcements and new product launches.
