Thorgal project in jeopardy - rights lost, studio in crisis
Thorgal is likely not to be released. According to media reports, the Warsaw-based studio Mighty Koi has lost the rights to the franchise, and the company is facing serious financial and legal problems.
The game was announced in 2024 and immediately sparked interest among fans of Grzegorz Rosiński and Jean Van Hamme's comic book universe. The project was conceived as an ambitious action-RPG in a Scandinavian fantasy setting, while the studio was also working on an adaptation of "The Ice Garden."
However, scandals have been escalating around the studio in recent months. Composer Mikhail Kornevich stated that he had not been paid for the music for the game. Later, reports emerged of debts to other contractors, and the company was blacklisted by the National Debt Register.
Further concern was raised by the disappearance of project materials: Mighty Koi's YouTube channel was deleted, trailers disappeared from the network after copyright complaints, and the game's page vanished from Steam.
Later, "Puls Biznesu" reported that the license for Thorgal had been lost more than a year ago. According to the publication, the rights to use the brand were revoked in April 2025 by the comic book publisher Les Éditions du Lombard due to problems in cooperation and intellectual property protection.
This means that the statements by studio head Marcin Grzegorski about retaining the rights were not true.
Mighty Koi's problems are not limited to this project. Materials for the game "Night Wanderer" have disappeared, and there are also reports of the company's shares being seized and an auction of the studio president's shares being prepared.
