Players didn't believe the Project Shadowglass trailer - the developer explained how he achieved "impossible" graphics

Some individuals were convinced that the developer simply generated an AI trailer.

Indie developer Dominic "Starhelm Studios" John previously unveiled the trailer for Project Shadowglass. He positions it as an immersive simulator focused on stealth. The events will unfold in a kingdom within a dark fantasy world.

The Project Shadowglass video attracted the attention of many gamers, but some raised objections — they doubted that the materials shown by the developer were real. A theory emerged that it was all a big deception and the video was generated using artificial intelligence.

Dominic recently spoke with 80.lv and described his visual style as something like "walking inside 2D pixel art" and suggests using the word "Pixerly" for the approach:

Imagine a retro 2D game that you magically "jumped" inside the screen, and wherever you look, everything looks like 2D pixel art. At least, [my goal is to create that feeling]!

Inspiration for the developer came from games such as: Ultima Underworld, System Shock, The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, and Thief: The Dark Project.

Project Shadowglass is currently in active development and some elements are changing, so the developer is not yet ready to fully describe the technical side of the project. Nevertheless, he outlined a number of points — the game runs on the Godot engine, he does not use voxels, and manual 2D pixel drawing is optional:

The main "heavy lifting" is done by a set of custom shaders and rendering code. No single technique produces this effect — it arises from a combination of many approaches. Some of them are obvious, such as point filtering and LUT tables, but this is just the surface layer of deeper pixel stabilization work.
