Sony Pictures has released a new promo video for the Resident Evil film, in which director Zach Cregger talks about his approach to the adaptation. The author of the horror films "Barbarian" and "Weapons" says he wants to return the franchise to its survival horror roots and preserve the atmosphere of the classic Capcom games.

According to Cregger, Resident Evil for him has always been primarily a story about fear, lack of resources, and the need to keep moving forward, even when "you only have two bullets left, and you know there are a bunch of monsters ahead."

Cregger himself admits that he is a bad shot in games and constantly misses, but Resident Evil still makes him move forward. According to the director, this experience formed the basis of his approach to tension and the film's script.

The main character of the new adaptation — medical courier Brian, played by Austin Abrams — will be the same "ordinary" person who shoots poorly and is ill-prepared for the unfolding nightmare.

Resident Evil premieres on September 18, 2026.
