Steam Controller short circuit risk discussed online
The first complaints about a potential safety issue with the Steam Controller have emerged. A Reddit user reported that the controller's charging station could have caused a short circuit after contact with a metal object.
A user under the nickname Toikka reported that the controller's wireless charging station can create a dangerous situation if it comes into prolonged contact with metal. The incident occurred after a metal strap from a Pixel Watch 4 accidentally touched the exposed contacts of the Valve charger.
According to the gamer, this led to a short circuit: the device began to heat up rapidly and emit sizzling sounds. Despite this, the equipment survived and only sustained external damage. The user stated that they do not intend to file a complaint with Valve Corporation but urged other owners to be more careful.
Presumably, the problem is related to the accessory's design. Online, it is believed that the charger immediately supplies current when exposed contacts are shorted by conductive material. The situation is complicated by built-in magnets that can attract metal objects such as keys or jewelry.
In the comments, users have already begun to discuss whether the device complies with EU safety requirements.
