In 2021, Impulse Gear studio released Larcenauts, a team-based tactical hero shooter for virtual reality, on PC via Steam. The project garnered some attention and received "mostly positive" reviews, but it didn't become a major hit.
According to SteamDB, Larcenauts' peak online player count was 42 at launch, then it dropped and averaged around 5-10 users. The game received updates for some time, with the last update 1.4.3 dating back to November 2022.
In May of this year, the creators of Larcenauts announced that they would soon be shutting down servers and removing the game from sale on Steam:
[...] Larcenauts online servers will be shut down on October 1, 2026. After this date, multiplayer and online features will become unavailable. In preparation for this, the game will soon be removed from the Steam store. We are grateful to the wonderful community that has formed over the past five years. Thank you for being a part of this journey and helping to make Larcenauts truly special.
In Larcenauts, players were invited to choose one of the specialists and participate in 6v6 matches:
Captain Eleanor Kass has assembled a team for daring heists of epic proportions. The specialists are the best in the galaxy and come from all walks of life. Before undertaking missions, the team will need intelligence and resources, and hostile forces will await them at every turn.
