New details have emerged regarding the recent cancellation of the horror game Paranormal Activity: Threshold, based on "Paranormal Activity." Brian Clarke, the author of the indie hit The Mortuary Assistant, told Eurogamer in an interview that the project was actually "technically already finished."

The developer has ideas on how to use the existing materials to create a new game, but he doesn't want to promise anything to avoid raising false hopes. The process of "extracting" the "Paranormal Activity" universe from the finished project would require a huge amount of work, and Clarke currently lacks the motivation for it. According to him, the whole situation hit him hard. For now, he intends to switch to other projects for which he also has "many ideas."

As previously reported, the rights holder, Paramount Pictures, flatly refused to move the strict deadline: the company wanted to release the game by the end of 2026, and the developer asked for a little more time for polishing. Because of this, Clarke made the difficult decision to terminate the collaboration to avoid releasing an unpolished product.
