Just Cause Developers Working on a Multiplayer Game-as-a-Service
This is indicated by open vacancies at Avalanche Studios.
Among the published vacancies at Avalanche Studios, the positions of Technical Director and Game Systems Programmer have attracted public attention. The description for the former states that the project has already completed the prototyping stage and is moving into the pre-production phase. The candidate is required to have experience with Unreal Engine in various development areas – from basic systems to performance optimization and multiplayer stability.
The second vacancy hints at a serious emphasis on network mechanics. Avalanche Studios is looking for a specialist who will help create content and features for “large-scale multiplayer environments.” In addition, the candidate must have experience supporting games-as-a-service, including releasing updates and implementing new content.

Interestingly, just a month ago, another studio vacancy indicated the use of Apex Engine in an unannounced AAA project. It is likely that plans have changed during the prototyping phase. It is also possible that the recent announcement of Unreal Engine 6 by Epic Games could have influenced this decision.
It is currently unknown whether the new project is related to the Just Cause franchise. However, Avalanche Studios co-founder and current head of Liquid Swords, Christofer Sundberg, previously hinted that the return of the series might be problematic.
